Donate Stocks
Your charitable dollars may go further when you donate stocks, bonds or mutual funds. Gifts of stock made to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County can help make more affordable homes available in our community.
Why Donate Stock?
Stock donations can make a larger impact than cash. By taking advantage of IRS tax provisions you may avoid paying capital gains tax when you gift appreciated stock*, realizing significant tax benefits by claiming full, fair market value for your charitable donation.
*Appreciated securities are investments that have increased in value from the time they were purchased.
A gift of stock made before December 31st may reduce your tax liability for the year you give. Your financial advisor can explain the possible tax benefits depending on whether the stock has appreciated or lost value since the time you acquired it.

Estate Planning
There are many ways you can make a planned gift, and the two most common are:
• Bequest
• Beneficiary Designation
A bequest through your will can help you reduce estate taxes and ensure that Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County has the resources to prepare families for homeownership, purchase land, and build affordable homes with hardworking families.
A charitable bequest through your will is as easy as including this language: “I {name}, of {city, state} give, devise and bequeath to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County (EIN 62-1477518) located at 404 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040, the following: {written dollar amount or percentage of the estate, or written description of property*} for its unrestricted use and purpose.”
It is easy to designate Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County as a beneficiary of assets such as bank accounts, retirement accounts or life insurance policies. You simply complete a form that is entirely separate from your will – which makes this approach a very easy way to give. Plus, beneficiary designations are flexible. You are not locked into the choice, and they can be reviewed, revised and adjusted anytime you want.
Your estate gift to Knoxville Habitat will continue to build strength, stability and self-reliance with hardworking families for generations to come.
