Honoring Habitat for Humanity Veteran Volunteers and Supporters

Veterans have been an essential part of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN, since our founding in 1992. Over the years, these dedicated individuals have continued to serve our community—joining our board, supporting committees, building homes, painting, and stepping up to help whenever needed, often with little notice. As we honor our military veterans this week, we recognize the tremendous impact they have made, not only on our projects but also on the lives of the families we serve.

This Veterans Day, we salute the volunteers who led the charge in organizing our Habitat for Humanity float for the annual Veterans Day parade. Army veteran Luke Dahlen, along with longtime Habitat supporters Greg and Barb Petrick, guided a team of passionate volunteers to assemble and decorate the float. Habitat members Wendy and Gene Gabry, incoming Board President Michelle Hearns, committee members Michelle Clark and Kwanza Jones, and Operations Director Kate Gauf—all joined by their families—worked together to prepare the float. They proudly marched in the parade, braving rainy weather to celebrate and honor our veterans.

If you are a veteran or part of a veteran-connected family and are looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity, Habitat for Humanity warmly welcomes you. Join us in building a stronger, more compassionate community—together.
