CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Steve Batten has been promoted to Deputy Fire Chief, which puts him second in command and in charge of the operations of Clarksville Fire Rescue.
Batten’s career started in 1996 at Fire Rescue, where he excelled at every level and rose through the ranks of the department. Previously an assistant fire chief and commander of A Shift, Batten has spent the past 11 years as an officer, honing his leadership skills and fire ground knowledge.
“I look forward to working with my coworkers in this new role and helping to grow the department into the future,” Batten said.
During his career, Batten, 47, earned a Fire Science degree, as well as many technical certifications.
“As a shift commander, Steve Batten showed his commitment on a daily basis,” Fire Chief Freddie Montgomery said. “He has led his shift and fostered positivity and integrity. It was obvious to me that Chief Batten was an emerging leader and had much to offer as second in command of CFR. He has hit the ground running, and has helped me dial in my focus as chief as he oversees the daily operations of CFR. He has my full confidence and the support of the entire staff of Clarksville Fire Rescue.”
Batten has been an integral part of Fire Rescue’s community outreach. He helped lead a group from the department in fundraising and organizing the local Relay for Life event, and is also in the early stages of building a house with Habitat for Humanity.
Batten and his wife, Denise, have been married for 27 years. They have two daughters, Jessica and Megan; and three granddaughters. Batten’s hobbies include spending time with family, woodworking and fishing.
