Habitat for Humanity builds homes and futures for families (Re-printed from ClarksvilleNow)

Since 1992 Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County has been building homes for families in our community. In 2019, the Clarksville based ministry will break ground on its 100th home.

One of the biggest needs they have right now are more volunteers from the community to help with the different aspects of the organization.

Habitat for Humanity emphasizes they do not give homes away and believe in giving people a hand up, not a hand out. They do that by partnering with families in need who are willing to provide sweat equity, or personal volunteer work, and have the ability to repay a zero-interest mortgage.

Along with volunteers, the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity relies on donors and sponsors to provide the funds necessary to buy needed supplies and tools to build a home, not just a house, to enrich a family’s life.

The Habitat ReStore is another important part of the organization’s service to the community. The ReStore is located at the Habitat for Humanity office, 404 Madison St. and accepts gently used items like building supplies, furniture, appliances, housewares and home décor.

The donated items are sold to the public in the ReStore with money raised going to support the nonprofit’s work in the community. You can call 931-645-4242 or email donate@clarksvillerestore.org to have items picked up or just drop them off at the ReStore.

The ReStore also has many volunteer opportunities, including decorating in the store, taking in donated items, assisting with social media and on the ReStore committee.
