Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN accepted a donation from the Sango United Methodist Church (UMC), proceeds from the 2010 Scamper Road Race. Habitat for Humanity has been the beneficiary of the Sango UMC event for approximately 20 years.

“We confidently say that Sango UMC has helped lay the foundation for every home we’ve built since 1992 and we’ll be there supporting the 21st annual Sango United Methodist Church Sango Scamper Road Race,” states Jennifer Kready, Executive Director. Theresa Ellis and Joy Roberts, Sango UMC Scamper co-chairs of this event explain, “We strive to have more participants every year and we feel that having a certified course, a long event history and wonderful benefiting cause, makes the Scamper a great race to be a part of. Plus our event shirts have become very collectable.”

(10/19) Pathfinders Give Time, Provide Muscle for a Good Cause

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Pathfinders of F Company, 5th Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, volunteered their time to help refurbish the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore downtown here Sept. 10.

The Twenty-one Pathfinders, due to the nature of their job, were able to complete the task in half the time it was expected to take.

Working with Habitat for Humanity was a great opportunity, said 1st Lt. Curtis G. Cullen, F Co., 5th Bat., 101st CAB General Support Platoon leader. The Pathfinders role in the deconstruction work was also something that they were able to excel at.

“As far as a community effort, it matches our company’s personality pretty well,” he said. “It’s a great organization, and the work they asked us to do is in line with what we’re good at.”

(10/13) Habitat for Humanity Registration for Women Build 2012

(Clarksville, TN) October 13, 2011 – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN is recruiting for Women Build committee leadership to prepare for the 2012 Habitat build season.

“We wanted a unique way celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2012 while engaging different communities and groups on the build site. We felt theme builds would allow participants to develop ownership throughout the event, while learning about the Habitat mission and ministry as well as making new friends and connections. We hope that these builds become a regular part of our Habitat outreach and something everyone can look forward to each year,” states Jennifer Kready, Executive Director.

“We’re recruiting committee members who want to take the lead on home construction activities and develop a plan that includes resource development to raise funds, materials, services and recruit volunteers for the build site. It takes a committed group of volunteers willing to fundraise, connect their contacts to a greater good, and be passionate about the Habitat mission throughout the 6-12 month process,” explained Kready. “Obviously the swinging hammers part is what most people look forward to, but what they don’t expect is when the experience takes hold deep in their heart. They realize that they’re building a future of stability, wealth, and happiness for a family who might not have had the opportunity without partnering with Habitat.”

Women Build encourages women of all skill levels and industries to partner on the build site with one mission: empower women to take action against poverty housing conditions. Women Build has constructed over 1,900 since its inception.

Registration to attend a Committee member interest meeting is available on the Affiliate website www.habitatmctn.org. Registration will close Friday October 21st with meetings scheduled thereafter.
