(7/21) Editorial: We can help others help Habitat
Habitat for Humanity has reached an important milestone in Montgomery County. The 75th house is being built locally under the program. Despite the fact Habitat has been a part of this community for two decades, there still are some aspects regarding the program that people don’t understand.
The first thing one should know about Habitat for Humanity is that it provides a hand up to families who are low income and currently living in substandard conditions, but it is not a hand out.
If you’d like to help, donating to or buying from the ReStore is a great way to start. Habitat encourages civic groups to get involved in what is called a “Habitat Build.” And individuals also can volunteer to help with an actual build. For more general information, go to Habitat’s website at www.habitat.org.
It is a great way to help people to help themselves and to lift up the entire community at the same time.
